What the price covers

At any provider, the price of a qualified signature covers three things: issuing the qualified certificate (after identity verification), keeping the private key on a qualified device (USB token or cloud HSM) and, sometimes, a number of signatures or transactions.

With traditional providers you pay the certificate once for 1, 2 or 3 years and signatures are usually unlimited within the validity period (certSIGN cloud caps at 200 transactions per year). At Simplifi the certificate is free and you pay only if you need more than 5 qualified signatures per year.

Price per signature: how to compare fairly

If you sign a few documents per year (tax returns, an employment contract, an ONRC application), the relevant price is €0: the Simplifi free plan covers 5 qualified signatures per year and never expires.

If you sign often, divide the yearly price by the number of signatures you need. At 120 signatures per year, Simplifi Personal is €0.10 per signature; a €30/year cloud certificate is €0.25 per signature at the same volume.

Hidden costs to check with any provider

Token delivery (€2 at DigiSign, included elsewhere), the token itself at renewal (€16-18 if lost), VAT (all prices on this page exclude it), travel to an office or notary if identification is not online, and transaction caps on cloud certificates.

At Simplifi there is no physical token, identification is by video, and qualified timestamps are included in every plan, including the free one.

The signature cost is an eligible expense

In funding programmes that require a qualified signature, the certificate cost is usually eligible. MEDAT Order 328/2025 (Start-Up Nation 2025) explicitly lists the “fee for obtaining the electronic signature” among eligible expenses, art. 6.3.1 point (16).
